Welcome to the Wonderful town of Westerlo! Welcome to the Wonderful town of Westerlo!
content
Westerlo is in the southwestern portion of Albany County and nestled in the Helderberg Mountains. It is a quiet rural community just 20 to 30 minutes from the city of Albany and approximately 110 miles from New York City. Westerlo is only 10 minutes from Greenville in Greene County. Our community enjoys the quiet of nature, the awesomeness of rolling hills and mountains, the beauty of landscapes, and the tradition of farming and community. The town was formed in April 1815 but has a rich history in the founding of our country, boasting many who fought in the Revolutionary War and whose descendants still live in the area. It is named after the Rev. Eilardus Westerlo (1738-1790), who was minister of the Reformed Protestant Dutch Church (now called The First Church) in Albany, from 1760 to 1790. In Westerlo you will find your neighbors are your friends. Our town has much to offer both young and old. The town itself, the Westerlo Heritage Museum, the Westerlo Public Library, the Westerlo Volunteer Fire Company, the many churches in Westerlo and the numerous community organizations host programs and events year-round. We have two beautiful parks to enjoy with your family, a respectful veterans' tribute area, many streams to fish, and just the peace and quiet of nature to enjoy. I am confident you will enjoy all that Westerlo has to offer and welcome you to Westerlo!
